Submission Guidelines

  • Any form of writing is accepted, including poetry, journalism, literary analysis, novel writing, dramatic script, humor/satire, personal memoir, critical essay, etc.

  • Make sure your work adheres to our theme of social justice, activism, and/or personal identity. 

  • Your work must be primarily in English.

  • Pieces that include offensive or derogatory language will not be accepted.

  • Proofread your work! Consider asking parents, friends, or teachers to look it over before submitting. 

  • Keep in mind that our editors will double-check your piece for grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. They will always strive to preserve your voice and intent, however. 

  • Plagiarism will not be tolerated. If your work is discovered to be unoriginal, you will no longer be invited to contribute to Words With Weight. For more information about what is considered plagiarism, check out this webpage.
